Human energy

There are a number of ways one can harness natural energy, and one of the latest trends is harnessing the body’s energy. The human body is increasingly being used to produce energy to charge electronic devices. HuMo or the Human Dynamo is a device that allows your clothing to harness the kinetic energy produced by the body movements. Conceptualized by Nick Reddall, the HuMo aims to utilize the physical capability of your body to charge the modern electronic gadgets we can’t live without.

The project’s version is a jacket that harvests energy from the normal arm swing of the person wearing it. Interestingly, the power is straight applied to lighting, so that the wearer is always safe whether he is running or waling down the streets. The HuMo is able to generate an average of half a Watt of power from a normal walking arm swing, which could be used to charge the power-hungry devices. There is a small string laid inside the sleeve that drives a pre-planned linear generator to create a natural feeling and resistance.

The process makes you raise the arm and throw it down with a little more force. The inspiration for this project was to look out for ways we can use and celebrate the physical capability of the human body in the modern world.
